Christmas is the season for after work partying and that means our wardrobes have to work that much harder than usual.
Unless you're happy to lug around an entire change of clothes to the office each day, you really need some little tricks to make 'new' looks out of your office wardrobe. Keeping a spare pair of shoes in the office is much easier than taking a suitcase full of options into work each day on the central line. And who wants to do a full outfit change in the office loo?
Happy shopping and after work drinking!
1. Get yourself a statement necklace.
Ok this one is obvious, but it's also the easiest so it has to be mentioned. A big and bold statement necklace can lift the most boring of office outfits into evening territory.
The one above is by Pieces and currently reduced to £26. Buy here.
2. Layer with a shirt.
You'd be surprised how many dresses can work with a shirt underneath and look suitably fashion forward. If you've got a dress that you'd like to wear out with colleagues but couldn't really wear it in the office, try it layered over a shirt and see how it looks. Then when it comes to going out later, you can just whip your shirt off and get the arms out!
The shirt above is by Charles Tyrwhitt and currently reduced to £19.95. Buy here.
3. Add a blingy jacket.
Sequins help lift any outfit. Switch your boring commuter coat for a blingy number and you'll feel your whole outfit lifted already. Why would you wear your office blazer in a bar with all its memories of unmet deadlines when you could be wearing GOLD?!
The jacket above is by ASOS and £75. Buy here.
4. Get some killer heels.
If you wear dresses or skirts to work then just kicking off your office shoes and getting rid of your tights can be enough to make you feel more eveningy.
The shoes above are by Zara and £39.99. Buy here.
5. Brave a crop top.
No don't worry, I'm not saying go all 90s Spice Girl with Darren from Accounts, but you CAN easily jazz up a work outfit with a crop top. If you wear a high waisted pencil skirt to work then just change your top in the evening to a jazzy cropped number and you're good to go. As long as your skirt is high waisted there'll be less than an inch of skin on display but you'll win aaaaaaaaall the fashion points. Make life easier by opting for a black skirt that will match most of your evening AND office options.
The top above is by Topshop and £75. Buy here.
6. Be clever with a wrap dress.
I am obsessed with wrap dresses anyway, but they can be a great option for day to night dressing. Wear to work with a vest underneath, tights and boots, then come evening time just whip off the vest (hello, wrap dress enhanced cleavage!) and swap the tights and boots for bare legs and heels. Easy!
The dress above is by Diane von Furstenberg and is £400. Buy here.
7. Ditch the work bag.
Nothing kills a night out like lugging around your laptop. Leave your work at work and only take a clutch out. Or treat yourself to an insanely ridiculous handbag like this Dougal imposter. It's too fun for words.
The bag above is by Zara and £39.99. Buy here.
8. Change into jeans.
If you dress quite smartly for work (i.e not in jeans!) then switching into jeans can be enough to make you feel like you're in 'going out mode'. And whilst pairing skinnies with a shirt and a blazer is massively obvious, opting for a girlfriend cut is just that bit edgier...especially with the right shoes.
The girlfriend jeans above are by Warehouse and are £40. Buy here.
9. Get your hair did.
This is my fail-safe option for making me feel great for a night out! Get a Fashion Fix at TONI&GUY and you can be in and out the salon in just half an hour and it will only cost you £25. There's a decent choice of styles on their Fashion Fix menu so you can have a different look every Thursday night if you want to. (I definitely want to). Such a winner if you can nab a 5pm appointment and put it in your diary as a 'VERY IMPORTANT MEETING'. Hair is important, after all.

10. And don't forget your make-up.
It makes a world of difference when a pro does your make-up so go to Blow and book a 20 minute make-over for £20 or if you like to get some products to show for it you can always book in with a counter girl in a department store as you'll be able to redeem your application fee against any purchases. Mac is always a favourite but most of the brands offer this sort of service. Don't expect to always be able to rock up at 5pm and get a slot though, call ahead if you can.
