Let’s get excited about the award season by checking out the scandalous moments from past Brit Awards.
Award season is indeed in full swing and this week it shows no sign of slowing down with the Brit Awards 2014 taking place at the 02 Arena tonight.
Presented by the hilarious James Corden for the 5th year running and featuring a host of stars including, Ellie Goulding, Arctic Monkeys, Pharrell Williams, Prince, Katy Perry and if rumours are to be believed, Beyonce, this is going to be an epic year for the legendary awards ceremony.
Not without controversy, the Brits ALWAYS have some sort of headline grabbing incident each year, from James Corden cutting off Adele mid-speech (awkward) in 2012 to the boys from Arctic Monkeys absolutely slating the Brit School in 2008. Who could forget last year when Taylor Swift sang ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ right in front of ex-Harry Styles? We definitely squirmed in front of the television.
It wouldn’t be a glittering awards ceremony without scandal, so here’s our top 5 controversial moments from past Brit Awards. We’re already looking forward to who creates a scene this year:
5. Robbie Williams Challenges Liam Gallagher To A Fight
Back in 2000 loveable Robbie challenged Liam Gallagher to a televised FIGHT after the Oasis frontman called him ‘fat’.
4. Alex Turner Slates The Brit School…In Front Of Brit School Students
You can always rely on those cheeky scamps from the Arctic Monkeys to say something controversial. When picking up a BRIT at the 2008 ceremony, Alex Turner made a snide comment saying, ‘I’d like to thank the Brit School, of course, which I graduated from.’ – LOL.
3. Jarvis Cocker Pulls A Moony On Stage With Michael Jackson
Ah, who could forget Jarvis Cocker infamously storming the stage whilst Michael Jackson performed the Earth Song at the 1996 ceremony. Not content with just ruining MJ’s moment, Cocker then proceeded to flash his bum. Charming.
2. Geri Halliwell's Nip Slip
Who can forget ‘nipplegate’ in a hurry? Ginger Spice literally let her nip slip as she collected a prestigious Brit with her fellow Spice Girls at the 1997 ceremony. Whoops.
1. Adele Flips The Bird To The Cameras
Who can blame Adele for sticking her middle finger up to the camera at the 2012 show? After Damon Alban took up half the ceremony blithering on, James Corden had to interrupt Adele’s very sweet speech, which prompted the ‘Skyfall’ singer to show exactly what she thought of the BRITs producers.
