Our Favourite Winter Wines

4 February 2014

As the temperature drops, we find that a glass of red wine is an ideal accompaniment to the heartier meals we all tend to go for during the winter months.

Here are just a few suggestions to help keep away the winter chill.

Cabernet Sauvignon – a definite fan favourite, this wine typically has strong and rich flavours, a healthy aroma and pairs well with red meat dishes, simple steaks or other rich recipes.

We recommend: Granfort Cabernet Sauvignon 2011/12. Pays D’OC

Pinot Noir – While Pinot Noir is typically a light red, the grapes blossom best in cool weather, giving this wine a close relationship with the cold. With a strong, smooth texture and long finish, enjoy with a big bowl of pasta, roast pork or even venison.

We recommend: Fortant De France. Terrior De Collines, Pinot Noir 2011/12. Pays D’OC

Rioja – An intense fruit concentration, both in the aroma and on the palate and notes of oak, vanilla and spices make this wine a perfect partner for fiery or peppery foods like cured meats, soups and stews.
