Cocktails of the Summer

12 May 2015

Ah, summer in London. Picnics in the park. Lounging in the garden. Pimm’s in hand. But let's get real. The only thing we really want to do outside this summer is drink in the sunshine and um OK, when the sun goes down too.

In the spirit – no pun intended - of our favourite activity, we bring you our list of smokin’ hot cocktails to whet your whistle both home and away during these sizzling months. And because we really love you, we’ve listed the ingredients for when you’re feeling exceptionally buzzed talented. You clever mixologist you.

Without further ado, the must-have cocktails of the summer, because you needed another excuse to go out on Wednesday night, right?:

Londontown

1. Summer of the - #Selfie

Hot weather, hot looks. We're at our prime in the summer. Summer me is the prom queen and lover of #Selfies, winter me is the awkward parent chaperone. With that said, Foundation has the kick-ass #Selfie cocktail (Stoli chocolate raspberry liqueur, milk, fresh raspberries and egg white) that cannot be missed. Duck face at the ready you wannabe Kardashian.

2. R&R – Raspberry & Rhubarb

Looking for a bit of R&R this summer? Yeah, hello me too. You do mean the Raspberry & Rhubarb martini from Mabel’s though, right? It's an explosion of summer flavours, Rhubarb vodka, English vodka, Chambord, fresh raspberries, pressed English apple juice and a squeeze of lemon. So fresh and so clean. You can sip on these (or slurp them down) at your leisure. Bring on ALL the Bank Holidays ASAP please.

3. What’s your number? – No. 92

What’s your name? What’s your number? Listen to Justin Timberlake, but forget the name. It’s useless at Forge, who have come up with the incredibly cool concept of simply skipping out on fancy cocktail names. They’ve gone full out mathematical on us. Feeling sassy? No. 61-70 are where you’ll find your sours. Our real winner however lies within this sharer: No. 92. Hendrick’s Gin, apricot liqueur, lemon juice, sugar syrup, cucumber juice, apple juice, rosemary and soda water. And dreams.

International Lovin’

4. Hot Miami - Canita

It would be remiss not to investigate the amazing cocktails that our American amigos are coveting. And we’re going to… Miami. Party capital of the south. We can't get enough of the Cuban inspired Canita (white rum, lime, house-made honey syrup, sugarcane juice, sugarcane stick) from Ball & Chain. Yes, Ball & Chain. It’s an incredible recreation of the 1930s hotspot that the likes of old Hollywood stars Billie Holiday frequented. Expect jazz. And a slight buzz.

5. Cool Berlin - Bloody Knuckle

Berlin is the equivalent to Shoreditch in London. Beyond cool and super hipster. And damnit, hipsters known their crafty cocktails.  We can’t get enough of the John Muir cocktail bar. Which by the way, is named after a Scottish-American author and outdoorsman. Who knew? Pssst. We have it on good authority that you’ll need to try the Bloody Knuckle (rye whiskey, Aperol sloe gin and orange bitters). We’re sold. City break anyone?

In the meantime, London ain't so bad. Our venues have got you covered this summer: Mabel's, Forge, Foundation, and so many more. Visit Late Night London for the exclusives.
