60 Seconds with Sophie

7 March 2016

We'd like to cordially invite you to meet the team behind the party. This week we chat to Sophie Elkington from Late Night London's Meetings & Events team.

Q. What excited you to work for Late Night London?
When I started at Late Night London I had just been travelling, I was excited at the prospect of starting a job that I could see myself having a real future in. I had followed the company on Facebook and Twitter previously and knew that it was somewhere that I would fit into.

Q. How do you think the events industry will evolve over the next 5 years?
The industry has always been strong, and it will continue to grow. People work hard and need the industry to keep the balance. People will always want to have fun – the same as companies will always need conferences and venue hire. I like the idea that we enable people to make memories and that 6 months on, they will be talking about ‘that thing’ that happened at a Christmas Party I helped organise.

Q. If you hadn’t gone into the events industry what would you have done?
If I wasn’t working in the event industry, I would have loved to be working with wildlife, maybe in conservation. I would quite like to have gone and interned with a cameraman and maybe gone on a filming expedition.

Q. What might somebody be surprised to discover about you?
My father is originally from Africa, people are usually surprised at that! I was also the face of the Science Museum when I was a child. So embarrassing.

Q. Which has been your favorite event to work on since you joined Late Night London?
I have two. One was for a milkshake company which was so fun, their demographic was for people who go to Piccadilly Institute. They were blown away by the venue and I was involved in the ideas process for their conference. It was so fun being able to get creative with the team and translate those ideas into a great event. My other favourtite event was for a chocolate company. Every time they showed up to a site visit or a meeting they brought samples! The planning was meticulous and I could really get into detail with planning this event and make their Christmas party perfect. I was so happy as I had put a lot into making it great for them, and it paid off.
